6H Spa: Rebellion Racing tops FP2 times; Aston Martin leads GTE Pro

Below are the main headlines from this morning’s FP2 session at the TOTAL 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps which was held in warm and dry track conditions.

The session ran smoothly apart from one Full Course Yellow mid-way through the session, temporarily stopping track action for approximately 5 minutes  

LMP1

  • Rebellion Racing quickest in FP1 as America’s Gustavo Menezes set a time of 2:00.878 in the No. 1 Rebellion R13 Gibson he shares with Bruno Senna and Norman Nato
  • Menezes’ time nearly 1.5 seconds quicker than the fastest lap time during last night’s FP1
  • No. 8 and No. 7 Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050 HYBRID cars second and third fastest, with ByKolles Racing Team fourth
  • No. 8 Toyota given 5 minute stop-and-go penalty midway during session for abusing track limits
  • In LMGTE Pro, Aston Martin lead the way as home driver Maxime Martin clocked 2:17.410 in the Aston Martin Vantage AMR he shares with Alex Lynn
  • Martin’s lap was 0.667s ahead of the sister No. 95 Aston Martin Vantage AMR driven by Nicki Thiim and Marco Sorensen
  • AF Corse Ferrari placed third with Davide Rigon and Miguel Molina driving the No. 71 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo, 0.021s ahead of the Porsche GT Team’s No. 92 car

LMP2

  • Signatech Alpine Elf top LMP2 times as Thomas Laurent set the pace midway through the session with a time of 2:03.371 in the Alpine A470 - Gibson
  • Racing Team Nederland second fastest with a time of 2:03.973 with Job Van Uitert at the wheel
  • Later in the session the same No. 29 car collided with the barriers temporarily stopping the session
  • Category leaders United Autosport was third fastest with Briton Phil Hanson setting a time of 2:04.533 in the ORECA 07 - Gibson

LMGTE Am

  • The No. 56 Team Project 1 Porsche 911 RSR driven by Laurents Horr put in the fastest time out of the 10 LMGTE Am entries in the closing stages of FP2  
  • Team Project 1’s pace-setting time of 2:18.394 was 0.419s ahead of second-placed No. 54 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE Evo that lead for most of the session
  • Third quickest was the second No. 57 Team Project 1 entry shared by Ben Keating, Felipe Fraga and Jeroen Bleekemolen

The third and final free practice session is scheduled for this afternoon at 14h00 CEST before qualifying commences at 18h00.
