WEC Full Access from Lone Star Le Mans – round six of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship campaign earlier this month – is now available to watch for subscribers of the FIA WEC App.
Offering fans a fascinating insight into the stars of the show, WEC Full Access covers everything from team briefings to heated mid-race discussions. It is the ultimate behind-the-scenes series, documenting the most private areas of the FIA WEC paddock.
The 2025 edition of Circuit of The Americas’ Lone Star Le Mans had it all, from downpours and drama to epic action, an awe-inspiring overtake for the lead and a significant post-race penalty. WEC Full Access lifts the lid on each of those key moments – and plenty more besides.
As former FIA World Endurance Champion-turned-official series commentator Anthony Davidson attests, COTA is always a challenge – although usually due to its extreme heat rather than extreme rainfall. With the heavens opening on race day, the on-board angles in this episode clearly demonstrate just how much drivers could see – or rather, just how much they couldn’t see – as they diced with disaster at every turn, making it as much a test of mental resilience as physical prowess.
But even the razor-sharp reactions of the best in the business are sometimes not enough, with reigning Manufacturers’ champion Toyota enduring another disappointing outing and the Alpine crew finding itself in a race against time to repair its #36 A424 prototype following an off-track excursion for Frédéric Makowiecki.
There were frustrations, too, for the independent #83 AF Corse Ferrari – whose bid to close the gap at the top of the championship table was hampered by a pit-stop delay – and for the ever-improving Aston Martin Valkyrie, with the two British Racing Green prototypes running strongly prior to retiring within barely ten minutes of each other in the closing stages.
Aston Martin THOR Team was not the only entrant to suffer late heartbreak, as LMGT3 pace-setter Proton Competition saw its gamble to stay out on wet tyres as the circuit dried towards the end backfire, costing the Ford Mustang a maiden FIA WEC win on home soil.
VISTA AF Corse looked to be the beneficiary of that strategy mis-step, but a post-race sting in the tail in the form of a five-second penalty for contact denied the Italian outfit the honours as well. That elevated United Autosports to the highest step of the podium, matching the achievement of Porsche Penske Motorsport in the headlining Hypercar category.
The German manufacturer owed its success in large part to an inspired pass for the top spot by Frenchman Kévin Estre on Alessandro Pier Guidi in the championship-leading Ferrari. Indeed, it turned out to be a particularly good day for FIA WEC’s French contingent, with Team Peugeot TotalEnergies claiming its finest combined finish to-date in third and fourth positions with its #94 and #93 9X8s – the latter of which had started in last place on the grid…
Hats-off to the hardy spectators who braved it out to the end in such inclement conditions. Re-live all of the best bits now in the dry via the sixth instalment of this season’s WEC Full Access series, which can be viewed exclusively on the FIA WEC App. It will subsequently be published on the championship’s YouTube channel on Monday, 22 September at 20:00 CEST.
