Strakka Racing’s Jonny Kane is a man impatient to end an 18-month endurance racing absence. The Northern Irish driver who has a wealth of experience in sportscar racing that dates back to 2001 will be aiming to celebrate from the podium in this weekend’s opening WEC race.

Kane, who like the Strakka Racing team, lives just a few miles from the circuit, has plenty of family and fans cheering on the striking Dome S103-Nissan in the LMP 2 class this weekend.

“It is nice to leave the circuit and then sleep in your own bed,” said the 41 year old. “It is little things like that and also the fact that we have lots of partners, fans and well-wishers here at our home race, that make the difference.”

Kane shares the Strakka Dome with regular team mates Danny Watts and Nick Leventis again and the close-knit team has made a good start after placing in P3 during the final free practice session this morning.

“It felt good this morning after we lacked a bit of balance yesterday which reflected on the lap time a little bit,” continued Kane. “It is still early days in some respect with the Michelin tyres and we are gaining data to go through all the time. The big thing this weekend is to get as much information as possible and to get some good points.”

So, does racing on a track he is so familiar with make a real difference? Are there secrets in the Silverstone circuit he can exploit?

“Well, I worked out that I have probably done more races at Spa than here actually. Also the Silverstone track has changed so much over the years with different variations since I first raced here (in 1992).”

“We did quite a lot of work in the Strakka simulator last week which was very useful. We have been away for a long time in the WEC but the testing and preparations the team have put in place have been excellent. We can’t wait to go racing again.”
