BMW M Team WRT and Team Peugeot TotalEnergies have finalised their respective Hypercar driving line-ups for the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship campaign, as both manufacturers bid to build upon encouraging displays this year.
Compared to 2024, BMW scored 23 points more in 2025, with Peugeot improving upon its own tally by 27 points as each doubled its seasonal podium count. Buoyed by that progress, the Bavarian brand has elected to stick with an unchanged sextet behind the wheel of its pair of upgraded BMW M Hybrid V8s.
That means the #15 entry will once again be piloted by Kevin Magnussen, Raffaele Marciello and Dries Vanthoor, with fellow BMW M works drivers Robin Frijns, René Rast and Sheldon van der Linde teaming up in the sister #20 prototype.
“Consistency was our priority when selecting our Hypercar drivers for 2026,“ affirmed Head of BMW M Motorsport, Andreas Roos. “We are very satisfied with the performance of them all, so there was no reason to make major changes. With every race, our drivers gain more experience with the BMW M Hybrid V8, which is crucial for the continued progress of our programme.
“The key is that everyone works well as a team, pulls together and advances this project. That’s exactly what’s happening, and I’m very much looking forward to continuing this collaboration.”
Peugeot similarly features a strong element of continuity in its line-up. Paul Di Resta, Loïc Duval, Malthe Jakobsen and Stoffel Vandoorne have all recommitted to the programme, with Nick Cassidy and Théo Pourchaire – who made his racing debut for the French marque in last month’s Bahrain season finale, enjoying a short stint in the lead – coming on-board as new recruits.
Di Resta and Duval will both be entering their fifth consecutive campaign with the team, while 22-year-olds Jakobsen and Pourchaire are highly-rated rising stars of the sport. Ahead of his return to endurance racing following more than a three-year hiatus, two-time FIA Formula E World Championship runner-up Cassidy has already engaged in some early running with the 9X8, posting the second-quickest time of the day during the annual FIA WEC Rookie Test.
The precise composition of Peugeot’s #93 and #94 crews for 2026 will be revealed early next year, with the regular race drivers set to be supported by test and development drivers, Jean-Éric Vergne and Alex Quinn – the latter having similarly taken to the track in the Rookie Test.
“For 2026, we are confirming a solid and well-balanced roster of six full-season drivers combining youth and experience,” commented Peugeot Sport Technical Director, Olivier Jansonnie. “Loïc and Paul, who have been with us since the start of the programme, remain our pillars – their expertise and dedication continue to play a key role in our success.
“We also welcome Nick, who will make his Hypercar debut in 2026 and has already demonstrated impressive speed in other championships, as well as Stoffel, who knows the team very well – their experience will be valuable assets. Malthe, after a very strong first season with us, continues to show great potential, and Théo impressed in his first race in Bahrain. Both represent the quality of young talent within our programme.”
Peugeot endured a disappointing conclusion to the 2025 campaign in Sakhir, taking the chequered flag only ninth and tenth due to a late neutralisation – just after its two Hypercars had made their final pit-stops – that dropped the #93 and #94 9X8s off the lead lap, having convincingly locked out the second row of the starting grid in Hyperpole and run up at the sharp end throughout the early stages of the eight-hour contest.
“We had opted for split-strategies and could have hoped for a top five finish,” rued Stellantis Motorsport Senior Vice-President, Jean-Marc Finot. “Unfortunately, our rivals took advantage of the safety car to get a ‘free’ pit-stop and we lost about four positions, but that doesn’t take away from the performance of the cars and the whole team. The potential is definitely there, and we can’t wait to show it in 2026!”
