This coming Easter Weekend will be a busy one with both the FIA WEC and ELMS having their opening races of the season as part of a festival of endurance racing at Silverstone.
Race control and the organisation team won’t be the only ones doing ‘double duty’ as there are several drivers competing in both Series. These guys will be putting plenty of ‘transit’ miles in between ‘The Wing’ and the national pits where the ELMS will be based for the weekend.
2013 ELMS GTE Drivers Champion Matt Griffin will be doubling up between WEC duties in the No.52 Ferrari 458 Italia in LMGTE Pro for RAM Racing and further LMGTE responsibilities for AF Corse in the ELMS.
Prospeed Competition WEC pairing Manu Collard and François Perrodo will race in the No.75 LMGTE AM Porsche 911 GT3 RSR on Sunday, and in the very similar No.82 Crubile Sport Porsche 997 GT3 RSR in the ELMS LMGTE class on the Saturday.
SMP Racing’s crews will be very busy over the weekend with their two, new LMP2 entries in the WEC. They’ll be busier still though, as five of the six WEC drivers will also be racing in the ELMS aboard the team’s new LMGTE Ferrari 458 Italia or in one of the pair of GTC 458s that SMP is fielding too.
Effort of the weekend though goes to Ram Racing’s Mark Patterson. He’ll combine his WEC duties in the No.53 LMGTE Am Ferrari 458 with a British GT drive at Oulton Park in Cheshire. Happily, the British Championship races on Easter Monday but the affable South African will be putting in a fair number of helicopter miles between sessions!
