GTE racing in WEC: Battle of the brands

Last year’s WEC Fan Survey confirmed what those in the world championship have long known:  the GTE competition is a hugely important element in the excitement and intensity of endurance racing across the world.

The WEC’s fanbase own an average of 1.95 cars per household, with the leading vehicle brands by ownership being Ford, VW, BMW and Toyota.

Fans are principally motorsport purists who enjoy the technological, competitive, innovative, exciting and global racing offered by the WEC.  The survey respondents confirmed that the WEC features the best cars, has the right balance of sport and entertainment and is a proven innovation platform for road car technology.

Of the 54,000+ fans who spoke out, the top 5 preferred manufacturers are Ferrari, Porsche, McLaren, Audi and Aston Martin – with all the LMGTE marques being mentioned.

Last year’s 6 Hours of Silverstone saw four cars finishing within 27 seconds of each other in the Pro category and, in the Am class, there was just 1.7s between the first two after six hard hours of racing.

What will this year’s GTE competitors (Sunday 19 August) bring to the fans?  Come along and find out at Silverstone, the home of British motor racing!
