  • Last year’s pole-sitter and early race leader Giovinazzi is aiming to avenge the mistake that cost the #51 crew a potential win 12 months ago
  • Continuing the hugely promising pace of FP1 is The Heart of Racing, with the #009 Aston Martin Valkyrie of Marco Sørensen and Alex Riberas placing third on a time of 1m52.457s, just 0.050s adrift of the #51 Ferrari
  • Porsche Penske Motorsport displays much improved form in FP2, as the #6 963 Hypercar takes fifth place with Matt Campbell re-joining Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor this weekend
  • The #83 AF Corse Ferrari of Yifei Ye, Phil Hanson and Robert Kubica claims sixth as the trio chases back-to-back wins at COTA following last year’s success
  • The #007 Aston Martin Valkyrie joins the sister Hypercar in the leading group, with a seventh-placed best effort as Harry Tincknell sets the car’s quickest lap
  • Ferrari shows consistency in pace, with the #50 entry ensuring all three of the Prancing Horse’s Hypercars are ensconced inside the top ten with the eighth-fastest lap
  • Ninth and tenth respectively are the #7 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing and #12 Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA prototypes
  • The session is red-flagged with three of the 90 minutes remaining, after the #81 TF Sport Corvette LMGT3 entry stops on-track at Turn 12

LMGT3

  • LMGT3 witnesses United Autosports continue its strong form at the track where the team claimed its maiden LMGT3 podium last year, as the #95 McLaren heads the class leaderboard

  • Much promise comes from the Proton Competition squad, as Dennis Olsen laps in 2m06.853s in the #88 Ford Mustang; alongside stablemates Stefano Gattuso and Giammarco Levorato, the Norwegian is chasing a second rostrum finish of the 2025 campaign this weekend
  • The second of the United Autosports McLarens driven by James Cottingham, Sébastien Baud and Grégoire Saucy is fourth, a mere 0.002s behind the Mustang
  • Rounding out the top six are the #78 Akkodis ASP Team Lexus and #77 Proton Competition Ford Mustang
  • The #54 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari hits trouble midway through the session as it has a spin at Turn 12, which triggers a brief Full Course Yellow period
  • The championship-leading Manthey 1st Phorm trio of Richard Leitz, Riccardo Pera and Ryan Hardwick endure a difficult session, winding up a lowly 14th in-class

The third and final free practice session is scheduled to begin at 11:00 local time on Saturday morning.
