Aston Martin Racing driver, Stefan Mücke, is anticipating plenty of home support this weekend as Germany welcomes the World Endurance Championship for the very first time.
“I have some great memories of racing here of course, it is such an iconic race track,” he said. “I would say the last six hour race I did here in 2009 was very special when we won in the Aston Martin LMP1 car with my team mates Tomas Enge and Jan Charouz, in the Le Mans Series.”
“I think there will be a lot of people here in Germany interested in this race because there is such passion for these cars here,” continued Mucke. “German race fans are very knowledgeable and genuinely interested in both the human and technical aspect. The WEC is such a great spectacle, I am sure there will be a really big crowd here to see it this weekend.”
Mücke knows that he will have to fight for a podium position this weekend after the Aston Martin Vantage V8s were given a 0.5mm air restrictor size reduction as part of the Balance of Performance review.
“It will hurt us, but we will have to see by how much on lap times. But we are expecting a tough weekend but of course we will keep pushing to the maximum and making sure we can capitalise on the usual things that happen in a six hour race.”
“We will try to find something on set-up or vehicle dynamics but at the end of the day we know the car very well and there is only little steps left to try and optimise. Finding 0.5s on top of what we are able to do at the maximum will be hard but you never know in endurance racing.”
