Peugeot to make 6 Hours of Monza 2022 WEC debut as bumper entry list announced

Peugeot entries a highlight of 38-car strong field for Monza

The much-anticipated Peugeot 9X8 will make its race debut in Monza for the fourth round of the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship on July 10 and will join the second-largest field in FIA WEC history.

Paul di Resta and Loic Duval will head the squads for the fourth round of FIA WEC in the #93 and #94 entries respectively, with the rest of the driver line-ups drawn from the squad of Mikkel Jensen, Gustavo Menezes, James Rossiter and Jean-Eric Vergne yet to be allocated to particular cars.

The 6 Hours of Monza takes place a month after June’s 24 Hours of Le Mans and other than the Peugeot entries, the Hypercar class remains as it was with Sebring winners Alpine currently heading Spa victors Toyota and the Glickenhaus entry in the title race prior to the big one at La Sarthe. With the brace of Peugeots, it’s a six-strong class in Monza, with two Toyota and an Alpine and a Glickenhaus in action.

In LMP2, it’s the same car and driver line-ups as Spa with one exception, the #5 Penske which will stand down for the rest of the season following Le Mans so won’t be in Monza.

In LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am it’s as you were in Spa, with five cars (a brace of Ferraris and Porsches taking on a lone Corvette) and in Am, it’s 13 cars, with five Ferraris and Porsches taking on three Aston Martins.

Monza has only been a feature on the WEC calendar since last year, but previously featured in various endurance racing series. The iconic racing venue located amidst one of Europe’s largest city parks offers a real fest for fans and drivers alike. Before Monza takes place, of course there is the Jewel in the Crown, double points 24 Hours of Le Mans to take place so all could change in the standings

Action gets underway in Monza with Free Practice on Friday (July 8) afternoon, further Free Practice on Saturday (July 9), then qualifying on Saturday evening, then the race itself starting at 12 noon CET on Sunday July 10.
