Porsche denies Toyota at Le Mans in dramatic last lap win
19/06/2016

Porsche dramatically won the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans, round three of the FIA World Endurance Championship, on the last lap after the Toyota which had lead the race for so many hours stopped on track with a technical issue.  Just three minutes of the race remained as the heartbroken Japanese team was forced to see victory being snatched out of its hands.

The No. 2 Porsche 919 Hybrid of Neel Jani, Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb, claimed the marque’s 18th Le Mans victory, completing 384 laps in a race full of drama.

Signatech Alpine won the LMP2 category with the No.26 Alpine A460 Nissan, and Ford made a triumphant return to Le Mans with victory in the GTE Pro category, with the No.66 Ford GT of Stefan Mucke, Olivier Pla and Billy Johnson taking maximum points in the WEC classifications.

Scuderia Corsa’s Ferrari 458 won the LMGTE class, with the No.83 AF Corse Ferrari of Emmanuel Collard, Rui Aguas and Francois Perrodo scoring the 50 points awarded to the leading WEC entrant.

Full report to come.
