Second qualifying session disrupted by heavy rain

Second qualifying session disrupted by heavy rain
16/06/2016

  • No change in positions since Wednesday night’s first qualifying session – Porsche still on provisional pole position with G-Drive Racing, Ford Chip Ganassi Racing and Clearwater Ferrari leading LMP2, LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am classes.
  • The traffic light at the end of the pit lane turned green at 19h00 this evening but only 30 minutes of the 2-hour session had elapsed before heavy rain hit the 13.6km Circuit de la Sarthe.  A large number of teams chose not to complete many laps in these conditions in order to protect their cars and drivers, many competitors having already installed race engines and gearboxes.
  • Once the worst of the rain had stopped, and with more temperamental weather due on Saturday, teams opted to work on their wet-weather set up and test the limits of the rain tyres.
  • Third and final qualifying session due to take place between 22h00 and midnight after which time the grid for the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2016 will be known.
