WEC meets Germany’s motorsport faces of the future

WEC meets Germany’s motorsport faces of the future
21/07/2016

One day ahead of the start of track action at the famous Nürburgring circuit in Germany, the FIA World Endurance Championship hosted members of a youth group from the local MSC Adenau motorsport club. The girls and boys, whose ages ranged from 7 to 17, were accompanied by a smaller number of adults from the club and all were shown behind the scenes of the WEC’s German round and observed how different areas of the organisation work.

The programme included a photo of the whole group on the podium, a visit to Scrutineering and a brief talk about what happens there from the scrutineers and Chief Pit Marshal William Cance, and then a visit to the paddock to visit the pit garages of Porsche Team, Dempsey Proton Racing, and Rebellion Racing.

During the afternoon the pupils learned about the diversity of jobs available in motorsport, and were able to talk with engineers, mechanics, press officers and, in some cases, with the drivers who are always happy to share their experiences with children.

The visit was finally concluded in the WEC hospitality unit for a well-deserved snack and drink. Who knows, maybe some of these new young fans have found future careers?
