Will Stevens: “We’re here to win!”

Britain’s Will Stevens says he is targeting LMP2 glory as he sets his sights on success with the Jackie Chan DC Racing squad this season.

The British driver, who will partner Ho-Pin Tung and Gabriel Aubry in the No.37 Oreca-Gibson car, has had a remarkably varied career during his decade as a professional driver.

After racing in F1 for a season in 2015, Stevens has become a hot property in endurance racing, taking three wins in the WEC over the last two seasons.
“For sure we’re here to win,” he says. “We’ve got a very strong line-up - we are with a very strong team and I think together there’s no reason why we can’t be winning races and fighting for the championship.

“That’s exactly what we’re here to do, so if we are not winning races then we are not going to be happy.”

Stevens thinks that LMP2 will see some huge battles this season as several top teams fight it out in the notoriously competitive category.

“I think this year is going to be very competitive,” explains the 28-year-old from Essex. “There’s a lot of good teams with good cars and very strong line-ups. The competition is [going to be] extremely high and so it’s going to be very important to get everything together. Ultimately, I believe in our package, our team, our line-up and that we can achieve big things.”

One aspect of the WEC that is sure to be a hot topic and a huge talking point this season will be the emergence of Goodyear as a new tire supplier.
Silverstone is a very high energy track for the tyres, making it important to get a tyre that’s consistent throughout the weekend.

“It’s great that Goodyear have come back in and obviously they’re pushing as hard as we are to achieve the best package that we possibly can,” says Stevens.

“We’re confident we can do that. But it’s also great for WEC and LMP2 that Goodyear has returned, we’re excited and let’s see what we can do.”

Tickets for this year’s FIA WEC race at Silverstone (30 August-1 September) start from £10 and can be purchased HERE.
