When possible at a circuit, the pit lane is divided into three areas: the “fast lane” is the lane nearest to the pit wall/signalling area. A car can access the fast lane only under its own power; the “acceleration and deceleration lane” is the central lane; the “working area” is the part closest to the garage where work is carried out on the cars. It has a wall or a painted line in front of the pit shutter on one side and a line separating it from the central lane on the other.

General discipline

During practice and the race, access to the pit lane is reserved exclusively for people who have a specific task to do there. Each competitor is responsible for the people in his pit, even if they are not part of his team.

Team personnel are only allowed in the working area to carry out work just before the car comes to a stop with the engine switched off and must evacuate and clear the working area as soon as the work is finished, before the engine is restarted and the car leaves.

Team personnel may enter the working area before the car arrives or right after the car has left in order to clean the working area (water removal, cleaning of an oil leak etc). Except when work is being carried out on the car, personnel must always remain inside the pit garage. When a car stops in the working area, it must park at least 50 cm from the wall or from the line outlining the working area (the 2.5m line). The car should be parked parallel to the above-mentioned line/wall. Penalty for infringement: at the Stewards' discretion.

Speed limit

Speed in the pit lane is limited at 60 kph. Penalties for exceeding the maximum speed authorised as follows:

PRACTICE - €100 fine for each kilometre over the limit and cancellation of the lap times set by the driver in question during the practice session up to the time of the infringement.

RACE - First infringement: drive through penalty. In case of exceeding 70kph: stop of 5 seconds in the Stop and Go area per kilometre or part of kilometre rounded up to the next kilometre being above 70kph. Second infringement: drive through penalty. In case of exceeding 70 kph: stop of 10 seconds in the Stop and Go area per kilometre or part of kilometre rounded up to the next kilometre being above 70kph.
