Peugeot teases 9X8 upgrades as it prepares for ‘next chapter’

Team Peugeot TotalEnergies will field an updated 9X8 Hypercar in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2027, as the French manufacturer aims to take the fight to the series’ ‘top contenders’ and ‘perpetuate its legacy in endurance racing’.

Peugeot teases 9X8 upgrades as it prepares for ‘next chapter’
29/07/2026

Peugeot has been synonymous with the long-distance discipline since taking to the track for the fourth edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans a century ago back in 1926. The marque has triumphed outright at La Sarthe on three occasions – in 1992, 1993 and most recently in 2009.

The Satory-based brand joined FIA WEC’s current top-tier midway through 2022, and the 9X8 has achieved four podium finishes to-date – but the car remains in search of its elusive breakthrough victory.

Drawing upon the experience it has gained over the past four seasons, Peugeot hopes its forthcoming technical tweaks will enable the ‘Lion’ to finally break its Hypercar duck.

“Since its debut, the 9X8 has been a platform in constant evolution,” commented Team Peugeot TotalEnergies Team Principal, Emmanuel Esnault. “Competing at the highest level of endurance racing means continuously learning, adapting and progressing.

“The intensity of competition at world championship level reinforces our determination to keep evolving, and our objective is clear – to position the 9X8 consistently amongst the top contenders.

“As we look ahead to 2027, the team is taking the next step in its development, focused upon a revised approach to performance, efficiency and design. This work is a key milestone in preparing the next chapter of the 9X8’s story and perpetuating Peugeot’s legacy in endurance racing.”
